One Night Husband

It's the wedding night of Sipang and Napat. They are a young modern couple. Sipang works for a big advertising agency and Napat is a professor at a well-known university. They got married after knowing each other for just one year. 

The phone rings. Sipang picks it up, only to hear a woman sobbing on the other end. The weeping woman hangs up. There is another call which Napat answers. He says a few words, which Sipang cannot understand and then hurriedly takes off. He never comes back. Sipang calls the police and files a report. She also calls Napat's brother and his wife, Chatchai and Bussaba, to help her search for him. Chatchai pays no attention to his younger brother's disappearance. Instead, he tells Sipang about the other side of Napat's life that she never knew about. She learns that Napat has a serious gambling problem. 

Sensing that Chatchai has a very strong animosity against his own brother, Sipang decides to get closer to Bussaba in the hope of finding other "truths" about Napat. One day when searching through Napat's belongings, Sipang finds a gun. Among the belongings are also some items with the name "Mei" on them. Sipang doesn't pay much attention to them, assuming that they probably belong to Napat's ex-girlfriend. 

Not soon after, Sipang discovers that Chatchai is very temperamental and violent. When he gets angry, he physically abuses Bussaba. Unlike Sipang, Bussaba is a conservative person and never fights back. She dutifully does all the housework herself and takes care of her sick mother who stays in a small house in the backyard of Chatchai property. Sipang feels sympathy for Bussaba because of her situation. 

With the assistance of Chatchai and one of Napat's friends, Sipang soon discovers that even though Napat was addicted to gambling, he seemed to genuinely love her so much that he was willing to quit gambling before the wedding. Sipang then starts to suspect that Chatchai might have something to do with Nipat's disappearance. Meanwhile, Sipang takes pity on Bussaba and encourages her to stand up for herself and to strive for a better life. 

More twists and turns follow, and Sipang finally discovers that Napat was having an affair with one of his students. Distraught, she seeks comfort in Bussaba who is always there to give her strength. As Sipang uncovers more clues to the disappearance of her "one night husband," she finds herself drawn closer to Bussaba. Will Sipang ever find Napat? Sipang is forced to reexamine her own sets of values and attitudes towards love and devotion. Her inner struggle puts her in a dilemma that propels the film into its startling climax. Emotionally charged and gripping, One Night Husband is a compelling study of the inevitable clash between traditional Thai ways and the more westernized approach to living.
